Samsung Galaxy S27 Series Rumored to Feature New Sony Cameras and Upgraded Selfie Hardware
Fresh rumors are shedding more light on Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S27 lineup, revealing several camera upgrades that could arrive when the phones launch in early 2027.
A previous report claimed that Samsung is testing a brand-new primary camera sensor for the standard Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+. It also suggested that both the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra would feature a 50MP ultra-wide camera.
A new leak now reinforces that claim, adding that the ultra-wide camera will reportedly use Sony's IMX855 sensor, a 1/2.55-inch imaging sensor designed to improve image quality across a wide range of shooting conditions.
According to the latest information, the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra will share one telephoto camera. However, the Ultra model is expected to include a second telephoto lens, continuing Samsung's premium camera strategy. Earlier rumors suggested the Ultra could switch to a simplified three-camera setup with only one telephoto lens, but this latest report points to a more familiar configuration.
The additional telephoto camera would become one of the key differences between the Pro and Ultra models. Another rumored distinction is that the Galaxy S27 Pro may launch without support for the S Pen, leaving that feature exclusive to the Ultra.
Samsung is also rumored to be upgrading the front-facing cameras. Both the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra are expected to feature a 16MP selfie camera with autofocus. Even more interestingly, the Pro model could include optical image stabilization (OIS) for its selfie camera, a feature rarely found on front-facing cameras.
Meanwhile, the standard Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ are once again rumored to receive a new 50MP main camera, powered by a Sony sensor instead of Samsung's own imaging hardware.
Internally, Samsung is reportedly using the codenames NM1, NM2, NM3, and NM4 for the four devices. The "NM" designation is believed to stand for either "New Miracle" or "Next Miracle." The codenames correspond to the lineup as follows:
NM1 – Galaxy S27
NM2 – Galaxy S27+
NM3 – Galaxy S27 Pro
NM4 – Galaxy S27 Ultra
As with all pre-release leaks, these details remain unconfirmed. Samsung is expected to officially unveil the Galaxy S27 family in early 2027, when the final specifications and features will become known.
